2. Force you to transfer your wages into a joint account but you do not know the password or allowed to use the password
4. You are not allowed to use ATM card, or credit card.
5. Build up credit card debt, housing loan or business loan under your name
6. Demand to know how money was spent.
7. Decide how you could spend money
8. Keep you from having the money you needed to buy food, clothes or other necessities.
9 . Keep financial information from you.
10 . Keep you from having access to your bank accounts.

Dowry demands associated with abuse of any type before, during and after marriage is labelled family domestic violence and against the law in Victoria.

The new law was proclaimed on 29/3/2019
The new Family Law Act states
“ The following behaviour may constitute family violence under paragraph (a)—
• Using coercion, threats, physical abuse or emotional or psychological abuse to demand or receive dowry, either before or after a marriage.”;
